Mailchimp Alternatives: 4 Tools That Are At Least As Good

Mailchimp is the market leader in newsletter software. But while the tool impresses with its ease of use, many integrations and free plan, it has some key disadvantages:

  1. Mailchimp is problematic regarding data protection because subscriber data is stored on servers in the USA. You are on the safer side if data is stored in this country.
  2. Due to data protection concerns, the Bavarian data protection authority (BayLDA) even banned the use of Mailchimp in the spring of 2021.
  3. Unfortunately, the user interface is entirely in English, limiting users’ usability.

Fortunately, there are now some Mailchimp alternatives that offer similar ease of use and range of functions. In this article, I will introduce you to my favorites – the four best Mailchimp alternatives:

CleverReach (The Best Mailchimp Alternative!)

CleverReach is currently the best Mailchimp alternative. The user interface is tidy, and you can find your way around quickly.  Like Mailchimp, CleverReach offers a comprehensive and easy-to-use WYSIWYG editor for creating newsletters. Registration forms and the entire opt-in and opt-out process offer many settings and design options.

In addition to sending emails individually, the newsletter tool offers, among other things, time- and action-controlled campaigns, auto-responders, RSS campaigns, and A/B split tests, which means that it has all the functions you would want for email marketing. Up to 250 subscribers and 1,000 emails per month are free with CleverReach, but some functions are limited in the free package. So you can z. For example, do not hide the CleverReach button in the registration forms.

Advantages

  1. Easy to use
  2. Good range of functions (including autoresponder)
  3. Creation of automation chains and workflows possible
  4. Good newsletter editor
  5. free package
  6. Agency solutions available

Disadvantages

  1. You must pay extra for faster support (24-hour response time instead of 72).
  2. No landing page or a website builder
  3. The design of newsletter templates is partly a bit old-fashioned
  4. No A/B testing

Sendinblue

sendinblue is a French provider. At the beginning of 2019, however, he bought the newsletter service Newsletter2Go and opened a branch based on it. Accordingly, GmbH is also responsible for customers. The servers promise greater legal security than Mailchimp. The software has a modern user interface and many functions, such as B., a landing page builder, CRM functions, live chat, autoresponders or SMS campaigns.

In contrast to Mailchimp, the monthly price is not determined by the number of contacts but by the number of emails sent. If you have a lot of contacts but rarely send emails to them, Sendinblue is a much cheaper Mailchimp alternative. The only drawback: The tool is not as intuitive and easy to use as CleverReach.

Advantages

  1. Modern user interface
  2. Useful extra features like landing page builder, CRM features, live chat, autoresponder and SMS campaigns
  3. Automated workflows
  4. Cheap if you have a lot of contacts and don’t send that many emails doe (the number of contacts is unlimited in each package)
  5. Free Lite plan

Disadvantages

  1. Expensive if you send a lot of emails
  2. Template selection could be more extensive.
  3. No tagging of contacts
  4. Not as easy to use as CleverReach
  5. No AB tests

ClickTip

Another newsletter tool that is suitable as a Mailchimp replacement is KlickTipp. I don’t particularly like intrusive marketing. Still, Klick-Tipp is a reliable tool with some unique features compared to the other tools presented, e.g. B. the so-called “tag-based email marketing”. This works like this: With the help of tags, you can assign attributes to your subscribers and thus send more targeted emails. All contacts are in one place, the so-called ContactCloud, which can be more evident than having umpteen different lists.

In addition, KlickTipp offers extensive automation functions, good split tests and Facebook list building. I don’t like that Klick-Tipp is designed for text-based emails and doesn’t offer newsletter templates. Unfortunately, KlickTipp does not have a free trial plan like other Mailchimp alternatives, and the entry-level plan costs a whopping €27 per month. However, 10,000 recipients are already included, for which you sometimes have to dig deeper into your pocket with other providers.

Advantages

  1. tag-based email marketing and ContactCloud to organize subscribers more easily
  2. extensive automation functions
  3. good split tests
  4. many integrations
  5. Facebook list building
  6. free online training courses
  7. 30-Day Money Back Guarantee

Disadvantages

  1. some pushy marketing
  2. no newsletter templates
  3. Plans start at €27/month

Rapid Mail

In contrast to other newsletters and email marketing tools, with the provider, Rapidmail, you can choose not to subscribe and therefore do not pay a fixed monthly amount per recipient. The first mailing to up to 2,000 recipients is also free. Of course, the subscription version is also cheaper than the flexible solution. The tool itself has a modern and clean user interface. The newsletter editor impresses with its simple operation via drag & drop. The selection of newsletter templates is vast: you can choose from over 250 beautifully designed templates on various topics.

Rapidmail has also offered autoresponders for some time, which is very good. However, it cannot be used to create sophisticated automation chains like Mailchimp. Only welcome mailings, transactional emails, annual event mailings (e.g. birthday greetings) and one-time event mailings are possible. Rapidmail convinces you with an excellent split test function. So if you want to send more one-on-one newsletters and contact your subscribers more sporadically, quick email can be a suitable Mailchimp replacement and a good alternative.

Advantages

  1. Modern and straightforward user interface
  2. 250+ free newsletter templates
  3. Good newsletter editor with drag and drop
  4. no subscription
  5. Use 880,000 photos for free
  6. first mailing to 2,000 recipients free of charge.

Disadvantages

  1. The Autoresponder feature is not as good as CleverReach or Mailchimp
  2. Not an all-in-one platform
